Return Of The Mack

I spent Saturday at Castriota Chevrolet in Hudson. The dealership put together a great event tied to the Girlfriend Getaway Florida. They even created a test track in the back so the girls could easily climb inside the Camaro and take it for a spin. I was quite impressed with the decorations for the event. The entire showroom was filled with pink and black balloons, the same colors as Working Women of Tampa Bay. The ladies coming in to test drive the Camaro all seemed super excited! How could they not be? Great car AND they got a free massage gift certificate to Massage Envy! Click here to see some of the pictures from the event.  My trip to Castriota Chevrolet brought back a lot of memories. I bought my first car from Tom Castriota when was I was 16. It was a Chevy Cavalier Rally Sport – white with a splash of baby pink and mint green along the side.

I loved rolling the windows down and blasting the radio while cruising Clearwater Beach. The song on the radio at the time: “Return of the Mack.” To me, it was the perfect driving song. I have to say, I haven’t had that much fun driving a car until recently when I started test driving the Chevy Camaro. I feel like I am 16 again – although time time – I am cruising St. Pete Beach and listening to my iPod on the Boston Acoustics nine-speaker audio system.

As I sat down to write this blog I asked some of our Facebook Fans about their first car and the songs cruised to when they were brand new drivers and I got some great responses.

“I could kick myself – my dad gave me my first car. It was a candy apple red 442 (don’t remember the year) with black leather seats and a stick shift on the floor. (my high school guy friends are gonna say “What?”) But, I didn’t like it, I… thought the leather seats would be to hot in the summer and whatever else came to my mind at the time. So, he sold it and got me a robin egg blue 1979 Chevy Monte Carlo. It retrospect, part of me is glad, I would have seriously injured myself in that car, considering at the time, I had a very heavy foot. The other part of me says I really wish I had it now! ”

“1981 Dodge Omni….drivers side door handle fell off on the outside, so had to get in through the passenger side…did not care one bit..it was mine!”
